Jefferson Memorial Hospital Employee Celebrates 59 Years of Service
10/14/2024
Jefferson Memorial Hospital is proud to honor Nancy Hancock, LPN and Scrub Tech, for her remarkable 59 years of service. Her journey, which began in 1965 at the formerly known St. Mary’s Hospital in Knoxville, has been a testament to her loyalty, passion, and love for her profession.
Born and raised in Knoxville, Nancy always knew she wanted to be a nurse, a dream she nurtured since high school. Fate brought her to Jefferson City when she married her husband, who worked in the area, and they moved to the close-knit community where she would leave an incredible mark. Nancy's career started in Knoxville, but after her move, she joined Jefferson Memorial Hospital, where she has now spent nearly six decades serving patients of the community.
Nancy's love for her job is rooted in its variety. "I love that I get to do something different every day," she says. Today, she works in surgery follow-up care, ensuring that patients receive the attention and support they need after their procedures.
Not only has Nancy cared for countless patients at Jefferson Memorial, but she has also been one herself. A breast cancer survivor, she underwent a mastectomy at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in 1998, gaining a deeper connection to the care her patients receive. Her personal journey with the hospital has strengthened her bond with the staff, whom she affectionately calls her "second family."
For Nancy, the small-town hospital atmosphere at Jefferson Memorial is one of the things she treasures most. "I love the close-knit feeling here. Everyone knows each other, and I feel like I'm part of something special," she explains.
When she's not at the hospital, Nancy enjoys spending time with her family, including her daughter, son, and three grandchildren. A devoted family woman, she loves watching her grandchildren play games, sewing, and serving her community through her small church.
Tennova Healthcare - Jefferson Memorial Hospital is honored to recognize Nancy Hancock for her outstanding service, resilience, kindness, and dedication to caring for those around her. Her passion for nursing and her connection to her colleagues and the Jefferson City community continue to inspire everyone who surrounds her.
