Tennova Healthcare Announces State Approval for Ambulatory Surgery Center in Hamblen County
9/3/2019
KNOXVILLE, TN (September 3, 2019) – Tennova Healthcare today announced the Health Services and Development Agency of the State of Tennessee has granted Certificate of Need approval for a multispecialty ambulatory surgery center to be located on an undeveloped lot at 6242 West Anderson Johnson Highway in Talbott, Tennessee.
The 12,000-square-foot outpatient facility will be named Volunteer Surgery Center and is the result of a partnership with Tennova Healthcare’s Jefferson Memorial Hospital and local physicians. The ambulatory surgery center will include three operating rooms and one procedure room. It is expected to open in 2021, subject to necessary regulatory and other approvals.
“Volunteer Surgery Center will give patients an alternative to having procedures done in the hospital setting,” said Colin McRae, chief executive officer of Jefferson Memorial Hospital. “Today, many surgical procedures that once required an overnight hospital stay are now performed on an outpatient basis.”
The three operating rooms will be equipped for general surgeries, such as gynecologic procedures, eye surgeries, minimally invasive orthopedic procedures, and ear, nose and throat surgeries. The procedure room will accommodate routine procedures, such as colonoscopies.
“For surgeons, an ambulatory surgery center—like Volunteer Surgery Center—is often more convenient and customizable to their needs,” McRae said. “And for patients, this option offers a cost-effective alternative to having surgery in a traditional hospital setting.
“We are pleased to work with physicians in our community to offer their patients a choice for where they can go for outpatient surgery,” he said.
